THE IBT ONLINE ECOMMERCE PROCESS


1. Requirements Specification

This stage involves outlining all of the features and functionality that the website will need to have in order to meet the needs of its users and reach its business goals. This includes things like the ability to browse and search for products, add items to a shopping cart, and complete transactions. Additionally, the specification helps define the user experience and design of the website, including the layout, navigation, and visual elements.

2. Sitemap and Content

The sitemap is a visual representation of the website's structure and organization, showing how the different pages and sections of the site are related to one another. At this stage, a detailed list of all the information and assets that need to be included on each page of the website is also compiled to ensure that the website is well-organized and easy to navigate and that all the necessary information and resources are included.

3. Design (optional add-on) & Development

This stage establishes elements such as user interface, page layout, navigation, and visual elements, as well as developing the functionality that allows users to browse and search for products, add items to a shopping cart, and complete transactions. This ensures that the website is visually appealing, easy to navigate and user-friendly, as well as technically sound and secure.

4. Ecommerce Enablement

The implementation of technical and functional capabilities to allow customers to easily browse, purchase, and receive products or services online. This includes integrating payment systems, implementing a user-friendly shopping cart and checkout process, and providing detailed product information. Additionally, ecommerce enablement also includes features such as inventory management, order tracking, and customer account management.

5. Testing and Go Live

During this stage, our developers thoroughly test the site for any bugs or technical issues and make any necessary adjustments. Pricing, Tax and Discounts

Getting your pricing right could make or break the success of your ecommerce platform, and the process gets even more complex in an international context. Will your charge the same price as in retail stores, or more/less? Will you require dynamic pricing for your partners, distributors or valued customers? Will you need to collect and submit tax or customs? Will you offer discounts or coupons to support your online marketing efforts? All of these crucial questions related to pricing will need to be discussed and defined.

Payment Methods

Many transactions get lost at the checkout. Why? Offering the right and easy to use payment methods beyond credit cards, such as COD, Bank Transfer, Direct Debit or Online Payment Services, reflecting your target market customs and preferences, can dramatically improve your abandoned cart rates.

But ecommerce is not limited to B2C with set prices. Many of our B2B clients have seen great success by implementing quote carts and order builders to evolve their websites into user-friendly ecommerce platforms, increasing their ROI.

Shipping and Order Fulfillment

Offering a shipping rate that will not discourage potential customers from buying while making sure you as a seller don’t lose money is a challenge many companies face. Can you afford to offer free shipping, or will you need a system that automatically calculates the correct shipping rate based on value/dimensions/weight and destination? Will you be working with a single shipping provider or managing multiple ones? Who will be fulfilling your order? Do you have a 3PL partner you can rely on, or will you be doing all the heavy lifting yourself? None of this needs to be a tiresome manual process; once carefully defined and set up, all can be supported by your ecommerce platform.

3rd Party Integrations

Do you already have important IT systems in place with which the ecommerce platform will need to communicate in regular intervals or even real time? Examples can include integrations with ERP systems such as inventory management systems, logistics systems, online marketing systems and CRM systems. These integrations might be quick and easy or indeed necessitate a more complex set up that requires careful planning, coordination of work with different providers, deployment and testing. That’s why each requirement needs to be flagged up from the start, reviewed and planned for.

Having an ecommerce website also means a great responsibility, making sure you have all necessary policies and processes respecting the local legislations in place.
